Happy Thanksgiving!

In the midst of this holiday season madness, a giggle courtesy of American artist and humorist, Norman Rockwell,

Just a reminder to laugh over the pending  disasters that the holidays can bring.   Whether it's turkey, ham, roast, or tofurkey,  best wishes for a happy thanksgiving to you all!

Swooning & So Will YOU!

As if being tall, slim, and gorgeous wasn't enough to make me jealous of her. Never mind that she seemingly doesn't gain an ounce when pregnant; or even  that she is married to the New England Patriot's superstar--and may I add, some handsome eye candy himself-- Tom Brady, but now she has a drool-worthy kitchen too?  Life just isn't fair sometimes! I nearly swooned when I saw this beautiful kitchen and adjoining spaces in Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady's Los Angeles home in Architectural Design magazine.

Okay, so I want to hate her, but I can't.  She and Tom carefully ensured the house was built to be environmentally sustainable with solar powered electricity, gray water irrigation, recycled wood, etc.  What a fab place for the two of them and their children to kick back and relax.

She also has a veggie garden, fruit trees, and a chicken coop on the beautifully landscaped property.   So not only is she beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well!

You know you want to see more - so click here already why don't you?

Have a wonderful weekend!

xoxo,

Millie

Can Couples Compromise In the Bedroom? And A Very Special Welcome!

For those couples who quarrel over boudoir design decisions the perfect color compromise for marital bliss is found in combining indigo blue and white with lots of gold and a jolt of bright pink.  The painting above the bed is pure genius and makes the room for me.  It's spots of deep blue are masculine; yet calming and restful; like a pool of ink it outlines the pillow shams and is the perfect foil to that playful swatch of sassy pink fabric covering the ottoman.  I think it strikes the perfect note of color in the room. The shapely curves of the upholstered headboard and footboard add to the feminine allure and seductive charm of this design.  Meanwhile, the repetition of gilding in the room is perfection itself underscoring the ottoman's cabriole leg.  The symmetry of the matching indigo lamps are orderly and masculine as is the rectangular shape of the night stands with a feminine gilded edge.  This bedroom is a fantastic example of how couples CAN compromise on design decisions leading to to a fabulous collaboration.

On a personal note, I have great news.  We have welcomed a new baby boy, Decker, into my daughter's growing family.

We are, overwhelmingly, a gaggle of girls here; a long line of strong, determined matriarchs have ruled, or sought to rule the roost.  So when I finally got to hold this little bundle of boy for the first time, I was over-whelmed and sobbed with joy at his arrival. I will spare you that photo!

He is so calm, sweet and alert.  I know my dad, the baby whisperer, would have been as thrilled to welcome Decker as he was to hold Nola.  But, I figure they already met in heaven...

Wishing you bundles of joy today!

Millie

Farewell & Good Riddance!

She turned to the sunlight
    And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbor:
    "Winter is dead.”
― A.A. MilneWhen We Were Very Young

Is the spring coming?" he said. "What is it like?"...
"It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine...”
― Frances Hodgson BurnettThe Secret Garden

“What a strange thing!
to be alive
beneath cherry blossoms.”
― Kobayashi IssaPoems

“You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep Spring from coming.”
― Pablo Neruda

“Can words describe the fragrance of the very breath of spring?”
― Neltje Blanchan

“Spring shows what God can do with a drab and dirty world.”
― Virgil Kraft

" And the endlessly long winter had at last turned to spring.
From life to death and back again to life. It was indeed the greatest magic in the world.”
― Lauren Oliver

“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke

It’s true in joy, I walked along,
took part in dance...

'there cannot ever have been a spring more beautiful than this. I did not know until now that clouds could be like this. I did not know that the sky is the sea and that clouds are the souls of happy ships, sunk long ago. I did not know that the wind could be tender, like hands as they caress - what did I know - until now?”
― Unica Zürn

Madly in Love!

No, I haven't been swept off my feet by some dashing stranger, just a beautiful kitchen that stole my heart!  From its hand-hewn weathered barn wood beams, to the steel framed window grille and antique iron pendant hung over that simple wood table with industrial steel legs we are talking perfection here dear readers!  Oh, and don't I just want to sit in those perfectly beautiful weathered gray chairs and gaze at those drop-dead gorgeous pale Parisian gray cabinets with chicken wire doors all day long.  I'd never grow tired of this look!

Yes, I'm thoroughly smitten!

Have a wonderful day all!!

Millie

Headboards to Love!

While the mirrored bed above and silver headboard below are absolutely beautiful, there is nothing better than an upholstered headboard for lazy Sunday mornings reading the newspaper in bed.  Here's a few of my faves because of their shape, size, fabric, or just overall gorgeousness!

This bedroom below gets my vote for fabulousness - comfy, sultry, sexy and inviting! Don't you just want to crawl in that bed?

Want more fabulous headboards and beautiful bedrooms?  Of course you do!  Here's the link to all of these, sources, credits and more.

Nola pulled herself up to stand for the first time yesterday!  Oh boy, now the fun really begins!  Here's the photo Aimee sent!

Sweet Sunny Spots

Around this time of year in New England it can get pretty damn cold out.  And right now its a really cold 7 degrees Fahrenheit.  When it's this cold outside you tend to look for the same sunny sweet spots in the house that the cat and dog love to curl up in to soak up the warmth.  Move over Kitty and Fido!

Here's a few of my faves:

Maybe it's a good idea to just stay in bed today!

Stay in the patches of sunlight today and be warm!
