The Arrival of Autumn...

Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower.
                                                   -- Albert Camus

No Spring nor Summer Beauty hath such grace
As I have seen in one Autumnal face.
                                                                                                    --John Donne

Besides the autumn poets sing,
A few prosaic days
A little this side of the snow
And that side of the haze.
Emily Dickinson

Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile.
William Cullen Bryant

I noticed yesterday that at long last the leaves are beginning to turn - shades of gold, orange, and rust -- and it looks like fall has arrived at long last. I have such a love-hate relationship with this season!  Love, because when the days turn crisp with clear blue skies it's such a relief from the hot, hazy, humid days of summer.

and hate because I dread the long dark months of winter ahead -- even if it is beautiful!

Yet, at the same time, I so enjoy preparing our home for winter; stacking quilts: in cabinets, on beds, over sofas and chairs too,  placing warmer colors on toss pillows;

and stacking wood by the woodstove.

One of my favorite things is to light candles all over the house to spark a cheerful glow.

A light against the growing darkness as autumn fades to winter.

What do you lovely readers do to celebrate autumn and prepare for the chill of winter?

Have a glorious day!
xoxo,
Millie
